Winter White List Giveaway

With the expected arrival of our second child in early February 1986, my husband used Winter White as a theme for my Christmas gifts that winter, and it's one that has never been forgotten. Our then life in the snow belt of Upstate NY must have inspired his idea. Warm boots were always a must, so he spoiled me with a pair of creamy white leather boots I had drooled over. That got the ball rolling. Along with the boots, he gifted me with an off-white full length wool coat, a white gold necklace, and a winter white robe with matching nightgown to pack in the suitcase I had readied for my hospital stay. I still recall the compliments received as I walked the halls of the maternity ward in labor trying to "move things along" at my OBGYN's suggestion. I also recall wearing the same ensemble, (perhaps a bit stained with spit up and baby drool) as I walked the floors back at home in the wee hours with my tiny (screaming) bundle!
Said bundle seen sleeping peacefully below- must have been daytime!
I've always loved Winter White- the soft creamy shade would pop up in the new clothing arrivals a few weeks after the holidays when it's too cold in the North for Spring clothes. Soft creamy whites can be more forgiving and won't break any of those not-after-Labor-Day-you-don't rules, though I rarely wear white these days, whether winter or summer, and I am well past the age of having to worry about my kidlets staining my clothes! I thought it might be fun to celebrate with a little giveaway in honor of Winter Whites. One set of these snowy white birds on pedestals remains from our gift-giving stash this year, so that's what's up for grabs.
Got them for a birdsong! If you'd like to participate, please help me create a White List. Because they are the complete opposite of Black Lists, White Lists are a good thing! Leave a comment here, a link to your photos or snippet or thought about a favorite winter white posted at your blog. Mention my White List and a link to this post. Whether it's a snowy scene, special sweater, treat, trinket, objet d' art or bit of lore, I'll add it to a future White List Post that includes your links, and that will get you in for the drawing. When it snows here in Georgia, I'll draw a name-- oh wait, it already snowed here last night! Check out the neat effect I got using a slow shutter speed mixed with a few flurries! Isn't this cool how the snow is dancing off of our front steps?
Seriously, I'll keep this open until Sunday. Maybe you have photos of white flowers to share like this one that remains from our Christmas table: (notice the brown-tinged tips on the petals!)Or maybe you have a penchant for stacks of white dishes, alabaster from Italy, crisply folded white linens, frothy lace, pale vintage buttons or adore white painted bead board like this shown below in my kitchen:
Maybe you like cookies topped with a riot of white confetti sprinkles or adore coconut confections or whipped cream as I do? Just add them to the White List. A local restaurant, Sotto Sotto, serves a dessert we love, so I found this recipe online and made it for our friends on New Year's Eve. Doesn't it look yummy? Chocolate Hazelnut Soup It's topped with a dollop of freshly whipped cream-one of my favorite white things to eat! Not to worry though, it's back to healthy egg-white omelets instead of the whipped cream for me now that the New Year has arrived. And, I so look forward to seeing all of your Winter Whites!
Ciao Ciao!

I love white hot chocolate! It's made with heavy cream and good white chocolate, a little vanilla...top it with some vanilla whipped cream-oh, it's heavenly. I have white dishes, so I like to serve it in a white ironstone mug...yummy!

Love the winter white stuff, especially the snow!

Oh, how fun, Mo! I almost couldn't think of anything until you got to the white dishes part. That has this last year become a real love of mine & I've got the creamware collection in the DR, as well as all new white dishes in my kitchen cabinets. Here's a link to my DR with the creamware displayed:

I have always loved winter white clothing too, although I don't have much of it right now! This was a fun & inspiring post, Mo!

Almond bark made with white chocolate (although it's not really chocolate), but melted, with toasted almond slivers, just a yummy, creamy, mix of sweet and crunchy!
Oh - the beautiful color of the beach sand in Destin!! Two of my favorite creamy, winter whites!
Cute, cute pedestals!

Those creamy white birds are just beautiful! Whoever wins them absolutely must post a photo so we can all admire them in their new home. What a delightful idea to have a White List! So creative, Mo! I'll have to think on this one. What a very lovely and thoughtful thing for your DH to have a Winter White theme for your gifts. Do they still make that model of husband?

Maureen...This is a wonderful idea for a giveaway! I'd love to win those birds. I know just the place I would use them!

One of my favorite "winter whites" is the carved swan on our hearth room mantle.

Another favorite is the photo I'm using for the Back Porch banner, for winter, the split rail fence in snow, at the entrance to our place at Lake of the Ozarks.

I can't wait to see the winter white list, when complete!

I would love to win those beautiful birds! I also love winter white. My bedroom is winterwhite with crisp blue. My favorite colors! I like to add a bit of cobault blue with it. I have a collection of antique white ironware pitchers and bowls on my mantle and they are beautiful. My mom also had winter white dishes and when I think of them it makes me smile at all the memories of her good cooking that went with them. When I look out the window we have 12 inches of winter white on the ground. The pond and the trees are glistening in the sun. How beautiful!

OH what a lovely idea! I do love winter white! But alas, I have nothing out showing white. I still have everything in boxes. Too bad I don't have a camera handy...I'd snap a pic of me right now. Woke up this morning and put on a large winter white cable knit sweater, and my winter white (ok, so they're beige) cordouroys. And I painted my pantry a winter white (ok, it's a light yellow) yesterday. Does that count? Love the blog Mo. Cute family pics.

I love the idea of winter whites (although we don't get a lot of snow or wintery conditions down where I am). I have to take virtual visits to see some winter snow!!

Have added you to my favorites and will stop by from time to time ~ I see that you are a Georgia girl, too!!

Blissfully, Bebe :)

I think this is just the cutest idea! And what cute pictures, too. I've put up my contribution here:

http://cottagemagpie.com/decorating/color-white.html

Also--I didn't include it, but I have a recipe for hazelnut toffee brownies on my site, and of course, it suggests LOTS of whipped cream. Can you have too much? I think not.

Thanks for organizing this, it's so cool!

Kitchen Cabinet Refacing said...

Kitchen cabinets are something you use every day, yet you probably never take the time to appreciate them. They seem simple enough, but there is actually more than plenty involved behind the scenes. There are many things to consider regarding kitchen cabinet refacing, cabinets materials, finishes, door designs, and even information on hardware. http://kitchen-cabinet-refacing-design.blogspot.com
